About the Summit

The Santa Fe Trombone Summit is held annually for 5 days every summer at the New Mexico School for the Arts in downtown Santa Fe, New Mexico. Since its inception in 2018, the Summit has been a highly personal and unique seminar drawing trombonists from across the country to its beautiful surroundings.
The Santa Fe Trombone Summit began as a collaboration between the Santa Fe Opera trombone section and Dr. Chris Buckholz, professor at the University of New Mexico. In 2017 after their first year working together as a section in the SFO, the idea was proposed by Mark Fisher to host a trombone seminar with an emphasis on chamber music and a select-sized group allowing for a more personal experience. Additionally, because of the make up of the founding group, the Summit would allow for Participants to see unique views amongst the Faculty from industry veterans to younger professionals beginning to establish themselves in their careers while still being active on the audition circuit.
With only 5 Participants in our first year, the Santa Fe Trombone Summit has grown into a competitive program since its inception and has featured multiple world-premiere performances by its faculty. Now entering its fifth season, we are proud to welcome Brian Wendel as our first ever Guest Artist to the lineup and welcome back Ingela Onstad for her Participant favorite Performance Psychology masterclass to enhance our Participant's experience while in Santa Fe. Principal Tubist of the Ann Arbor Symphony and Adjunct Assistant Professor of Tuba/Euphonium at Vanderbilt University, Jarrett McCourt, also joins us this year for section side-by-side classes.
